Allergy and Clinical Immunology
The mission of the Division of Allergy and Clinical Immunology is to deliver the highest quality clinical care, as well as provide outstanding research and teaching programs to improve the health of patients with allergic and immunological diseases.
These diseases include common problems such as asthma, rhinitis, sinusitis, recurrent infections, atopic dermatitis/eczema, food allergies, drug allergies, anaphylaxis, and other manifestations of allergic disease, as well as uncommon problems such as primary immunodeficiencies, including antibody deficiency states, cell mediated immunodeficiencies (e.g., severe combined immunodeficiency, DiGeorge syndrome, Hyper-IgE syndrome, Wiskott-Aldrich syndrome, ataxia- telangiectasia), and white cell defects. The clinical approach is a comprehensive multidisciplinary one, and includes a Center for Asthma and Allergic Disease, providing the only specialty clinic in Northern California devoted to pediatric asthma. This Center emphasizes optimizing acute and chronic care of asthma, and on patient and family education with attention to environmental control measures.
The Division of Allergy & Clinical Immunology interfaces with the Division of Immunology and Transplantation Biology and embraces outstanding research programs, sponsored primarily by the National Institutes of Health, that investigate the underlying immunologic and genetic basis of allergic disease and immunoregulation. Additional clinical research programs deal with assessment of clinical outcomes, evaluation of a comprehensive asthma education program and asthma education video games, and of new phamacotherapies for asthma and allergic diseases.Administrative Contact
