Allergy and Clinical Immunology
Thank you for your interest in The Pediatric Asthma and Clinical Immunology Fellowhip program at Stanford University School of Medicine and Lucile Packard Children’s Hospital. This program is designed to prepare specialists in the delivery of skilled medical and consultative care to patients with a broad spectrum of allergic and immunologic conditions and also to encourage the pursuit of careers in academic allergy and immunology.
Fellows admitted to the program will have successfully completed a program in Pediatrics accredited by the ACGME. The length of the fellowship program is 24 months; however, fellows will be very strongly encouraged to spend additional years in education and research in order to adequately prepare for a career in academics or research. Successful completion of the 24-month program will lead to Board Eligibility in Allergy and Immunology.
Although the first year of fellowship funding is provided through the Stanford University GME Office, the fellow is expected to participate actively in the generation of funds to cover salary during the year(s) spent in laboratory / clinical investigation. The second and third year fellow is funded via the Post Doctoral Office and is dependent on receiving outside funding (i.e. grant funding).
Fellows receive education in both pediatric and adult allergic and immunologic disorders, including asthma and related disorders, and cross-training and experience with both inpatients and outpatients. In accordance with ACGME requirements, the program provides approximately 25% (at least 6 months) time devoted to research and scholarly activities, 50% (at least 12 months) time devoted to direct patient care activities and 25% (at least 6 months) time devoted to additional educational activities on average through the following allocation:
Trainees’ Time Commitment
First year |
60-80% direct patient care |
20-40% Scholarly/educational/research activities |
Second year |
20-40% direct patient care |
60-80% Scholarly/educational/research activities |
The allocation for third year of training is similar to the second year.
Fellows will meet with their program sponsor and the training program director to plan the first and second year schedules.
